The Year of the Ram

It seems like there are a lot of little celebrations to have in February: Valentine's Day, Mardi Gras/Lent, and now, Chinese new Year. While I made dinner tonight, Bug helped Peanut make a few lanterns and then they made a sign to welcome the new year.

Dinner was egg drop soup, chicken chow mien, stir fried veggies, rice, and pot stickers. The kids basically ate rice and pot stickers. I cannot get my kids to like Chinese food. Makes me so sad.

And then Bug wanted to do a little puppet show for me. Because how else do you celebrate the new year than with a bunch of little stick puppets that he photocopied from a book and then colored and a shoebox puppet theater complete with pull curtains. He'd heard a story about the new year and the animals in school and that speared this whole creation. Seriously love this kid and the crazy way his mind works.

And where was Bean during all of this, you might ask? She would be reading her way through her fourth Sisters of Grimm book of the week. Snow days and delayed starts for school have given her hours and hours to read and she's been taking full advantage.

Chinese New Year

This week has been full of celebrations for holidays we don't really celebrate. We had a chinese feast for dinner tonight: egg drop soup, chicken and mushroom lo mein, vege potstickers, and rice (which was the only part of the meal my kids would eat--we tried). And then Daddy-o made some apple dessert potstickers. His turned out a lot prettier than mine, but that's what I get for making 3 new recipes at the same time.
Maybe next year we'll learn a little more about the holiday--instead of just eating chinese food and making paper laterns. Oh, and Bean did get to read The Dragon and the Cable Car, courtesy of her uncle. So at least she knows there are dragons involved.
Oh, and the quote of the day, from Bean while setting the table: "We don't need forks. 'Cause Bugaboo stabs his eye with forks and I hit my forehead with forks. So we're not interested."
